Paying Your SEVIS Fee

F-1 and J-1 students are required to pay a SEVIS fee directly to the Department of Homeland Security via electronic submission or Western Union Quick Pay.

You'll need to pay your SEVIS fee at least 3 business days before your visa interview. You can't pay this fee at the consulate.

Procedure

  1. Find your SEVIS number on your Form I-20 or DS-2019 from Emory.

  2. Submit your SEVIS fee payment online or via Western Union Quick Pay and print your receipt.

  3. Make a visa appointment with the US embassy or consulate.

  4. Submit your SEVIS fee payment receipt with other required materials at your visa interview.

Payment methods

You can pay by either of these methods:

  1. Submit Form I-901 online using a credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or American Express). Paying online allows you to print a receipt instantly.

  2. Western Union Quick Pay, which allows an electronic payment directly to DHS. You can take cash payment in local currency to any Western Union location offering Quick Pay service. Print out the instructions from the website and take them to a Western Union agent. Ask for and fill out the blue form. Within minutes, DHS will receive confirmation of the payment. After 3 business days, check FMJfee.com to view your payment status and print out the confirmation page.

Refunds

DHS will not refund the SEVIS fee if you are not granted a visa or if you choose not to come to the United States after your visa is granted. The fee is transferrable if you decide to attend another US institution.
