What is the EILP?

The EILP is an academic-year-long cohort program that promotes leadership development which is inclusive, purposeful, collaborative, and values-based.

By participating in the Emory Intercultural Leadership Program (EILP), international and domestic students will receive training on global leadership skills and intercultural competency development, attend cultural and leadership events, participate in a service-learning project, and share their cultures and perspectives with each other and the Emory community. Upon successful completion of the program requirements, students will receive a certificate.

Participants will:

  • Develop leadership skills and relationships at a mandatory leadership retreat
  • Recognize their own identity, culture and values
  • Explore their level of intercultural competency by taking and debriefing the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) or Intercultural Conflict Styles Inventory (ICSI)
  • Expand their intercultural communication skills
  • Enrich their perspectives as leaders by learning to recognize, validate, appreciate and include others' experiences
  • Facilitate positive social change through service learning  

  • Meet new people from around the world and across disciplines (domestic and international students)
  • Expand your leadership and intercultural communication skills
  • Develop professional and public speaking skills
  • Become part of a diverse team working together to make a difference
  • Further your professional experience for your resume 

Qualifications

  • Must be a full-time student for the entire academic year (domestic and international students encouraged to apply).
  • Must commit to attending a monthly in-person seminar during the fall and spring semesters and complete all assignments. The seminars are non-credit bearing.

Requirements

Participants are required to:
  • Attend a monthly in-person seminar, typically on Friday afternoons
  • Participate in a leadership retreat on a Saturday in the fall semester
  • Participate in a service-learning opportunity on a Saturday in the spring semester
  • Attend cultural and leadership events such as the Global Festival
Mandatory non-credit monthly seminar
  • Program participants will attend a mandatory 90-minute monthly seminar in the fall and spring semesters. These seminars are not for credit and will focus on the following:
    • Intercultural communication skills
    • Leading consistently with emotional intelligence
    • Personal leadership
    • Perspective sharing
Assignments outside of the seminar
  • Students will be expected to complete the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) or Intercultural Conflict Styles Inventory (ICSI) and attend a one-on-one debrief to review their profile and development plan.
