Overcoming a Visa Denial
Reason for denial
If your visa application is denied, you will receive a form that identifies the reason for the denial.
The most common reason is failure to convince the consular officer that you will return to your home country after your time in the United States.
Before reapplying for the non-immigrant visa, you should consider these questions:
-
How did you explain your overall plan for your education?
-
What questions did the consular officer ask?
-
Did the consular officer overlook something?
-
Is there additional information you can present to establish your intent to leave the US?
Re-applying for a visa
Consular officers often look for information that is materially different from what was posed in the previous application. Material changes include:
- New financial information
- A new family situation
- A new proposed area of study
