Transportation

MARTA

MARTA (Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority) is the major public transportation operator for the city of Atlanta. MARTA operates a network of bus routes and train stations which can be particularly useful for getting around Atlanta if you want to get to major tourist sites, the downtown area, or Atlanta’s international airport. Emory’s campuses also feature multiple MARTA bus stops which makes getting to and from Emory convenient.

Rideshare Apps

Uber and Lyft are currently the two major competing rideshare apps in the Atlanta area. Both apps are available on iOS and Android and offer various service options at different price points depending on time of day, how many people you are riding with, and whether or not you request an SUV.

Safety tips: Always confirm the license plate and driver match the app description and have them say your name rather than you asking them if they are looking for you before getting in a car.

Personal Car

Due to how spread out Atlanta is and the fact that many Atlantans live in the suburbs and commute into the city for work, many people in Atlanta choose to purchase and drive their own car. Bicycles

For students and scholars who live on or near campus or simply prefer a more eco-friendly mode of transportation, Emory offers bike racks throughout campus and even operates a bicycle and bicycle lock rental program. To stay safe while cycling, please also review “Bicycle Safety in Georgia."
