Leaving Emory Early
If you have an international scholar who is leaving Emory before their original end date for any reason, please let ISSS know as soon as possible.
J-1 scholars
Regardless of your scholar's reason for leaving Emory, you should log in to ISSS Link and fill out the J-1 End of Program e-form to report their departure. If they complete their program objectives by their program end date, they will have a 30-day grace period to leave the US.
Early completion
If your scholar finishes their exchange program early, report their early completion date in ISSS Link before they actually complete their program. They will have a 30-day grace period to leave the US.
Early withdrawal
If your scholar withdraws from their exchange program early without completing it, you should report their withdrawal date in ISSS Link before they actually withdraw. The scholar won't get the standard 30-day grace period to depart the US. They will have to leave the US right away.
H-1B/E-3 scholars
If your scholar's employment with Emory will end before the end date on their I-797, ISSS must notify USCIS and the Department of Labor.
Submit the "H-1B/E-3 Status or Employment Ending Early" e-form in ISSS Link to notify your ISSS Advisor as soon as possible. You will receive an email with the necessary instructions depending on the reason for ending employment early.
ISSS will contact USCIS to cancel the remaining time on their H-1B petition.
H-1B and E-3 scholars don't get a grace period at the end of their authorized stay, so they will need to leave the US right away unless they have already secured employment elsewhere and the new employer has already filed its H-1B/E-3 petition to sponsor the H-1B/E-3 scholar for employment, or have filed a petition to change status inside the US to another status prior to the end date of their employment.
O-1 scholars
Please fill out an O-1 early termination form (PDF) before your scholar leaves Emory.
O-1 scholars don't get a grace period at the end of their authorized stay, so they will need to leave the US right away.
