Pre-Arrival Webinar Series for Incoming Students  

ISSS partners with various support units on campus to offer pre-arrival webinars to incoming undergraduate, graduate and professional international students on a variety of topics they need to know before coming to the U.S. and Emory (International Student Panel Q & A, Immigration matters, Healthcare and Health Insurance in the U.S., Off-campus Housing, Paying Tuition from Abroad, Cultural Adjustment, etc.). 

New International Student Welcome

ISSS hosts a special event each fall to welcome our new international students. New International students will receive an invitation email from ISSS with a link to register. 

Passport to Emory

Passport to Emory is an overseas pre-departure orientation program for newly admitted undergraduate and graduate/professional international students and their families. This program offers incoming students and their families an opportunity to meet representatives from Emory University and helps students prepare for their Emory experience before they ever leave home.

Global Festival

ISSS invites the entire Emory community to our annual Global Festival in collaboration with the International Student Leadership and Advocacy Board (ISLAB)! Learn about cultures from around the world through performances, games and cultural booths hosted by our international students and scholars.

Emory International Council

Each year ISSS selects a group of international students from diverse backgrounds and Emory schools to be part of the EIC. These students meet monthly with ISSS senior staff as representatives of international students. The purpose of this council is to generate new program ideas that will support international students and foster connections between US and international students. The EIC provides suggestions and input on ISSS programs, services, and communication efforts and offers new ideas about the types of support and services that will help international students have a fulfilling and successful Emory experience. 

Windows to the World

Windows to the World is an event series designed to celebrate the diversity within the Emory community and to increase mutual understanding and intercultural awareness. Different countries, cultures, and holidays will be spotlighted at each event.

Intercultural Communication Workshop for Students

International and domestic students are invited to attend this workshop that ISSS offers to foster intercultural competency development. 

Life in the US is a workshop designed to help international students adapt to a new culture. This workshop features a student panel of upperclass international students who share from their personal experiences. 

Intercultural Learning for Faculty and Staff

ISSS provides courses and workshops for faculty and staff to enhance intercultural competency, to develop intercultural communication skills, and to equip faculty with an increased ability to meet the needs of a diverse student body in their teaching and research endeavors. Faculty and staff are encouraged to register for a course by logging into Emory Self-Service, clicking on Learning Management and then selecting Learning Management - Brainier.

ISSS Lunch & Learn Series 

The ISSS Lunch & Learn learning series is offered during the academic year to support department administrators by providing opportunities to increase their knowledge and skills related to hosting and managing international scholars/employees. Each series session takes an in-depth look at an aspect of the scholar request and management processes. Attendees also learn more about the host/employer responsibilities and underlying government regulations. Participants actively engage in discussion and share their own tips and best practices.

Culture and Conversation

Culture and Conversation offers an opportunity to learn about US culture, learn new English phrases, share your own culture and make new friends. It is open to international students, scholars, and their family/partners. Details can be found on the Hub/Corq app.

International Community Friday Lunch

Hosted by ISSS and the Office of Spiritual and Religious Life, International Coffee Hour is an opportunity to meet students and scholars from around the globe, learn more about on- and off-campus resources, and feel part of the Emory community while enjoying free lunch. Scholarships for NAFSA Advocacy Day

Have you wondered how you can be a voice for international students at Emory and in the US? Do you know how to advocate for immigration policies that affect your life as an international student? ISSS awards scholarships to three international students to participate in the NAFSA Advocacy Day in Washington D.C. in March. NAFSA is the leading US non-profit organization committed to international education.

After a day of training, participants will head to Capitol Hill with an ISSS Advisor to meet with elected officials and educate Congress on short-term and long-term benefits of international education, as well as to advocate for favorable immigration policies. Scholarship recipients will be able to provide a first-hand perspective on the impact of policies that affect international students in the US.

International Student Graduation Reception

The International Student Graduation Reception is an opportunity to celebrate undergraduate, graduate, and professional international students and their academic accomplishments. International students graduating in May will receive an invitation email from ISSS with a link to register.

International Family and Partner Programs

ISSS offers a suite of programs and events to engage and support the families and partners/spouses of international students and scholars. Past events have included a Thanksgiving Dinner, Culture and Conversation, Virtual Story Time and workshops on various topics. Partners/spouses of international students and scholars can request to be added to the listserv for family and partner programs and events.

Emory Intercultural Leadership Program (EILP)

The EILP is a new cohort program that will bring together domestic and international students for intercultural learning and student leadership development for one academic year.
