International Student and Scholar Advisor
Office: North Decatur Building, Suite 130
As an International Student and Scholar Advisor, Stephanie Mathis works with international students, scholars, and administrators regarding federal immigration and employment regulations, Emory resources, and related matters.
Originally, from Pinewood, South Carolina, Stephanie began her international education journey through FSU’s rigorous Urban Regional Planning Panama program where she discovered her passion for education and adventure during a stay in the Comarca region with the Kuna Yala Indians. In addition, she spent a tenure with the National Society of Black Engineers in Alexandria, Virginia, in which she managed NSBE’s international student membership and programs. The experience was transformative in so many ways – and Stephanie fell in love with the field and working with students from all over the world.
Prior to Emory, Stephanie worked as an international student and scholar advisor at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and at Christian Brothers University as the Coordinator of International Student Services in Memphis, Tennessee. Stephanie earned her B.A. in Political Science with a minor in African Studies from the College of Charleston and completed her M.S. degree in International Affairs from Florida State University.
In her free time, she enjoys trying new organic beauty products, shopping at farmers markets, exploring Atlanta’s music and food scene, and spending time with family and friends.
