Biography

As an International Student and Scholar Advisor, Sylvain Chabra works with international students, scholars, and administrators regarding federal immigration and employment regulations, Emory resources, and related matters.

Prior to starting at Emory, Sylvain worked at the University of South Carolina where he first taught French before moving on to International student recruitment and eventually International Student Services. His focus there was employment and support as well as cultural programming.

Originally from Normandy, France, Sylvain earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in English and American Literature and History at the University of Caen and studied abroad in the UK. Upon earning an M.A. in Foreign Language Pedagogy at the University of Delaware, he moved to Columbia, South Carolina. Sylvain and his wife, Rachel, have a daughter, Winnie, and a beagle named Scout.

Sylvain likes to cook (and eat), go to movies, read books to his daughter, go for walks with his dog, travel, paint, and watch his favorite teams play (Arsenal, Atlanta United, Washington Nationals, and the Charlotte Hornets and Panthers).
